If you have suddenly started seeing posts, trailers, posters or videos claiming that Gremlins 3 is coming in 2026, the confusion is understandable. There really is a new Gremlins movie. Warner Bros. really has brought Gizmo back into the picture. And there are real videos online labeled Gremlins 3 (2026).
But those three facts don't mean the movie is coming in 2026.
The short answer is no. Gremlins 3 is officially happening, but its current theatrical release date is October 6, 2028. Warner Bros. originally scheduled the movie for November 19, 2027, then moved it back by almost a year in September 2026. The studio also released a short official teaser showing Gizmo and the new 2028 date. Variety reported the change.
So if you've seen "Gremlins 3 confirmed for 2026," you're probably looking at a fan-made trailer, an old rumor, or a post that has mixed genuine Gremlins 3 news with an incorrect release year.
Yes, Gremlins 3 is actually real
This part has changed quite a bit from the old Gremlins 3 rumor cycle.
For years, the third movie was something fans talked about without having an actual film on the studio's release schedule. That changed in November 2025, when Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that a new Gremlins movie was moving forward.
At the time, Warner Bros. put the movie on its schedule for November 19, 2027. Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins, was attached to direct and produce, while Steven Spielberg was returning as an executive producer through Amblin Entertainment. People covered the announcement.
That was the real confirmation fans had been waiting for.
It wasn't a fan poster. It wasn't a YouTube concept. It wasn't somebody interpreting an interview from ten years ago.
Warner Bros. had actually announced the film.
So where did "Gremlins 3 (2026)" come from?
This is where things get messy.
There are multiple Gremlins 3 trailers online that use 2026 in their titles. Some look remarkably close to the sort of trailer you'd expect from a real studio release.
One fan-made trailer titled Gremlins 3 (2026) — First Trailer | Gizmo Returns openly describes itself as a concept trailer made using effects, sound design, AI video, AI imagery and AI voiceover. It was published in September 2025.
Another widely viewed fan-made trailer published in February 2026 also describes itself as fan-made and AI-assisted. Its title presents Gremlins 3 (2026) as though it were a movie, while the description explains that it is a creative reinterpretation rather than an official Warner Bros. production.
That distinction is easy to lose once a video is reposted.
Someone sees the thumbnail.
The video says Gremlins 3 (2026).
A Facebook or TikTok account reposts a few seconds of it without the original description.
Another account adds "official trailer" to the caption.
Eventually people start searching for confirmation.
The search itself can then make the rumor look even more legitimate.
But Warner Bros. did release a real Gremlins 3 teaser
This is the part that makes the current situation particularly confusing.
On September 23, 2026, Warner Bros. released an actual short teaser for Gremlins 3. It features Gizmo emerging from a backpack before revealing the new release date:
October 6, 2028.
So there are now two very different things circulating online.
One is an official Warner Bros. teaser.
The other is a collection of fan-made trailers, some of which use "2026" in the title.
If someone sees the official teaser and one of the fan trailers around the same time, it's easy to assume they're connected.
They're not.
The official material points to 2028.
Why did people think 2026 was the release year?
Part of the confusion comes from how long Gremlins 3 has been in development.
The franchise has been discussed for years. Chris Columbus has talked about the possibility of another movie. Zach Galligan has spoken about the project. Fan-made trailers have repeatedly appeared online.
That means the name Gremlins 3 has existed on the internet for a long time without an actual movie appearing.
Then the situation changed.
The movie was officially announced in 2025 with a 2027 release date. Then, in September 2026, Warner Bros. moved it to 2028.
That creates several different dates in old articles, videos and social posts.
You can find references to 2026, 2027 and now 2028 depending on when the material was published.
The latest official date is the one that matters.
When is Gremlins 3 actually coming out?
The current U.S. theatrical release date is:
October 6, 2028.
Warner Bros. previously had the movie scheduled for November 19, 2027, but moved it back almost a full year. The studio's September 23 announcement accompanied the new date with the short Gizmo teaser.
There has been one conflicting report that listed October 8, 2028, but Variety and the Warner Bros. announcement both give October 6. The studio's own teaser displays "10.6.28."
So for now, October 6, 2028 is the date to use.
Is the 2026 Gremlins 3 trailer real?
No, not if you're referring to the fan-made videos circulating under titles such as Gremlins 3 (2026).
Several of these videos are concept trailers. They use existing footage, visual effects, generated imagery, sound design and other editing techniques to imagine what a new Gremlins movie might look like.
That's different from an official theatrical trailer.
There has been a similar problem with Gremlins 3 trailers for years. In January 2025, for example, ComingSoon reported on a viral Gremlins 3 trailer that was being mistaken for a real studio trailer. The video was actually a fan-made production created using AI.
The basic rule is simple:
A video being titled "official trailer" on YouTube doesn't make it an official trailer.
For a movie like Gremlins 3, the safest place to verify a major announcement is Warner Bros. itself and established entertainment publications reporting the studio's announcement.
What do we actually know about the new movie?
We know considerably more than we did a year ago, although Warner Bros. is still keeping many details private.
Chris Columbus is attached to direct and produce the film. He wrote the original Gremlins and is returning to the franchise decades later.
Steven Spielberg is returning as an executive producer.
The current screenplay is being written by Hannah Marks, based on an earlier draft by Chris Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. Producers include Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment, along with Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe of 26th Street Pictures.
What we don't have yet is a complete cast announcement, a full plot synopsis or a conventional theatrical trailer.
That matters because some of the information attached to fan-made trailers is invented for the concept.
If a fan trailer claims that a particular actor is playing a particular character, that doesn't mean Warner Bros. has cast that person.
Is Zach Galligan returning as Billy?
There has been plenty of speculation about the original cast, especially Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer.
But as of the latest studio information, Warner Bros. has not announced the full cast.
Variety's September 2026 report specifically notes that casting details have not been disclosed.
So a poster showing Galligan, Phoebe Cates or other original cast members shouldn't be treated as evidence that they're officially returning.
That doesn't mean they definitely won't appear.
It means the studio hasn't publicly confirmed the casting.
There's a difference.
What about Gizmo?
Gizmo is one part of the new movie that Warner Bros. has actually shown us.
The September 2026 teaser features a Mogwai emerging from a backpack before the new release date appears. The Los Angeles Times identifies the creature as Gizmo.
That makes the teaser more than a generic announcement.
It gives fans the first official glimpse of the creature that made the original films so recognizable.
But it doesn't reveal much about the story.
We don't yet know exactly what situation Gizmo is in, how the new story begins, or which characters from the earlier movies will return.
What happened to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai?
If you've seen the animated Gremlins series and wondered whether that was the new movie people were talking about, it's a separate project.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai explored a much earlier period in Gizmo's story as an animated prequel series.
Gremlins 3 is the new theatrical movie.
The existence of the animated series may have added another layer of confusion because people searching for a "new Gremlins movie" can encounter both projects.
But the 2028 movie is the live-action theatrical continuation that fans have been waiting for.
Why is "Gremlins 3" suddenly showing up everywhere?
There is good reason for the renewed attention.
The franchise has enormous built-in recognition. The original Gremlins was released in 1984, followed by Gremlins 2: The New Batch in 1990. The third movie has been discussed for decades.
Now there is finally an official movie, an official teaser and a confirmed theatrical date.
That combination gives the old rumor a new life.
There is also a steady supply of fan-made material filling the information gap. YouTube creators have been producing imagined trailers for Gremlins 3 using AI-assisted visuals and other effects, sometimes assigning the project a 2026 release year even though that isn't the studio's schedule.
So the current search activity isn't necessarily evidence that Warner Bros. announced a 2026 movie.
People may be searching for the opposite reason.
They've seen something and want to know whether it is real.
So, is "Gremlins 3 confirmed for 2026" true?
No.
But there is an important correction to that answer.
Gremlins 3 has been officially confirmed as a real movie.
It was announced by Warner Bros. in 2025 and was originally scheduled for 2027. In September 2026, Warner Bros. moved the movie to October 6, 2028 and released a short official teaser featuring Gizmo.
The 2026 release claim is false.
The movie itself is real.
And some of the trailers being shared under the 2026 title are fan-made concept videos rather than official Warner Bros. trailers.
That's the part that has gotten tangled together online.
If you see a Gremlins 3 (2026) trailer, don't automatically assume the entire thing is fake news. The underlying movie really does exist.
Just check the date.
Right now, Gizmo isn't coming back to theaters in 2026.
He's scheduled for October 6, 2028.
